Day 66. June 29. Friday. Ottawa (Greeley) – Kenmore area loop

We had a great ride today.  Beautiful back country roads through an interesting agricultural area.

One of the first things that impressed me was a 10+ acre field of broccoli.  Holy cow, that was a lot of broccoli.  Can’t even imagine how many people it will take to harvest all that.  I tho’t it was planted a little close.  Only 15-18 inches apart and rows as close as they plant Corn.

Then down the road aways was a huge field, I’m guessing 50 acres or more, of rows upon rows of solar panels.   No way to really get a picture to show anything.

Later we passed fields of strawberries.  These were small fields, only a couple acres each, but still an awful lot of berries.  Signs said ‘pick your own’, and there were several people doing that but they didn’t begin to cover the field.  I love to harvest produce but picking strawberries is back breaking work.

We passed a couple roadside stands that sold only strawberries and we passed a farmer’sarket stand that operates on Sat.  Would have been nice to see that in operation.

We got home way before noon before the heat really hit.  Today was in the 90’s and it’s only supposed to get hotter the next couple days.  Ed turned on the air conditioning today because by mid afternoon, it was becoming unbearable.  Can’t wait for Sunday when they predict the temp and humidity should feel like 115 degrees.  Wow, that is hot.
